The American Institute of Physics (AIP) is a membership corporation created in 1931 for the purpose of promoting the advancement and diffusion of the knowledge of physics and its application.

As an "umbrella" organization, AIP supports ten Member Societies. The institute is one of the world's largest publishers of physics journals and produces the publications of more than 25 scientific and engineering societies through its New York-based publishing division. It has an annual budget (in 2008) of approximately US$ 75 million with a staff of more than 450 employees located in its headquarters in College Park, Maryland and in its publishing center in Melville, New York.
