Knowino:About

Knowino is a volunteer wiki-based project dedicated to creating a free[1] general compendium. It is built on two main principles: anyone can contribute, and experts are encouraged to review articles for factual accuracy. Our goals include writing and supplementing a reliable encyclopedia, disseminating and promoting free educational content, and fostering broad participation from the community.

Knowino is a unique experiment to see if a better reference resource can be produced when all of these aspects are brought together in a single endeavour. You might want to read our list of frequently asked questions (and answers). For an introduction to the way we handle content here, see our style guide.

[edit] So I can contribute?

Yes, you can! You can modify, or "edit", almost any article. Because Knowino is a wiki, it's very easy to reverse mistakes. If you register, you'll be able to upload pictures and audio clips to supplement articles. See our editing help for more information.

We encourage you to create an account and sign in to contribute, but you don't have to. Creating an account will make it easier to attribute your contributions under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license.

[edit] Notes

  1. You can view Knowino's content free of charge. But Knowino is also free in another sense: you can freely study, use, copy, alter, and redistribute our material under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution–ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC-BY-SA) license.
  2. Articles can be "certified" on three different levels. For an explanation of what those levels mean, see our guide to article certification. The Flagged Revisions extension makes the certification process very easy.
