Why was Knowino started?

Thomas Larsen became increasingly frustrated about Citizendium's bureaucracy and barriers to entry, and questioned the viability of Citizendium as an experiment in expert guidance of a wiki encyclopedia. On November 15, 2010, he created a temporary wiki, called "Tendrl", on his own website and invited various members of Citizendium to contribute. December 17 saw Tendrl move to virtual private server (VPS) hosting, and the project was renamed "Knowino".
