The Lorentz gold medal designed by Toon Dupuis (1877–1937)

The Lorentz medal is an award established by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen [Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, KNAW], on the occasion of the 50th anniversary (11 December, 1925) of the doctorate of the theoretical physicist Hendrik Antoon Lorentz. The gold medal is awarded once every four years to a scientist in recognition of important contributions to (theoretical) physics. An ad hoc committee of the physics section of the KNAW selects the medalist.
