William James "Bill" O'Reilly (born September 10, 1949) is an American political commentator, journalist, syndicated columnist, and author. He hosts the political commentary program The O'Reilly Factor on Fox News. O'Reilly is known as a conservative in the media, although he allegedly holds an objection to the death penalty, despite commenting on The Factor about wanting the government to kill several people. He identifies as a "traditionalist" or an "independent", though many consider him to be a Republican. Early in his broadcasting career, O'Reilly worked for WNEP-TV in Scranton, Pennsylvania, as a reporter and anchor. He also worked at several other local stations, and won local Emmys for his coverage on skyjacking. He also worked at CBS, and left in a debate about uncredited use of footage. He also worked at ABC. In his work in the Inside Edition, a tabloid program, he was known for his interrogative manner. However, he tried to use his experience there as "credible" journalism.
